Kinki University [Held Cervical Cancer Prevention Awareness Seminar] Providing information on HPV vaccination for university students
Kinki University, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, will hold a cervical cancer prevention awareness seminar on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Nara Campus. The seminar is intended for Kinki University students and faculty members to deepen their understanding of cervical cancer, the HPV virus, and catch-up vaccination.

Background
HPV (human papillomavirus) is a virus that causes cervical cancer. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) is offering vaccination opportunities at public expense as a "catch-up vaccination" until the end of March 2025 for those who were born between fiscal 1997 (FY1997) and 2007 (FY 2007) and have not yet received the vaccine.
However, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, 48.5% of those who were eligible for vaccination in FY2023 answered that they "did not know" about the HPV vaccine catch-up vaccination. Therefore, it is imperative to further raise awareness of the HPV vaccine among those who are eligible for vaccination.
